Keep Melissa Walking! 165+ miles walked!....(and counting!)...
I, Melissa Johnson, am joining thousands of other dedicated women and men October 30-November 1, 2009 in the Tampa Breast Cancer 3-Day, a three day, 60-mile walk to help raise awareness and find a cure for breast cancer.
As my grandmother was on her last days of battling her 10 year fight with breast cancer in the summer of 2007, I had promised her that I would do what I could to help find a cure so others would not have to go through the pain she had gone through.
That year I walked my first 3 Day event in Tampa. Since then, I have kept my promise and have also participated in The National Breast Cancer Marathon (half in 2008, and full in 2009), the Atlanta Breast Cancer 3 Day 2008, and the Savannah Race for the Cure 2009.
The memory of my grandmothers strength and courage keeps me walking. And she has gone with me every step of the way.
Breast Cancer is unfortunately the number one cancer in American women and it is estimated, one out of every eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her life.
Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a three day, 60-mile walk that provides an opportunity to educate tens of thousands of people about breast health, including the importance of early detection. Breast Cancer 3-Day participants commit to raising a minimum of $2,300 and walking an average of 20 miles a day during each three-day event.
